Dan Choi Handcuffed to the White House Fence

Army Lieutenant Dan Choi and Captain Jim Pietrangelo handcuffed themselves to the White House fence Thursday, March 19, 2020, to protest Don't Ask Don't Tell, the U.S. Military's policy barring gays and lesbians from serving openly. The soldiers led a crowd of protesters who had attended a the "Rally to Repeal 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell' with Kathy Griffin, organized by HRC. Also arrested was GetEqual's Robin McGehee for helping the two handcuff themselves to the fence.

A dozen couples outside of the Superior Courthouse of the District of Columbia, Washington, D.C., Wednesday, March 3, 2010, waited to be among the first same-sex couples in the District to receive a marriage license, including the first couple, Angelisa Young and her partner Sinjoyla Townsend of Washington.

Motley Bears January 2010

As most readers of my blog know, I am the official photographer for Motley Bar Bear Crue. I do it for fun really, mostly because I am likely to be at the bar each Friday anyway. I try not to impose too much, but I bring my camera and take photos of the patrons if they ask. Occasionally I will make a round to find a group of people who just look like they would make a good picture. I used to keep the albums seasonally, but they got to be too large. Now I publish a Motley Bar Bear Crue photo album for each month and write up a little blurb to remind me of the mood of the month.

January 2010 – Happy New Year. Motley regulars brave cold winds to meet up with friends (and pitchers of beer). Mid-Atlantic Leather brings out the leathermen. Don’t Ask Don’t Tell gets pulled off the back burner with Barack Obama’s January 27th state of the union address. Engagements are announced in DC as gay marriage waits to become legal. All this while DJ Jim Gade finds a retro rock groove with Friday regulars.
